Knowing the type of pavement surface applied on a roadway is necessary to understand the skid number, performance, and the road’s noise level. These details can be found in TxDOT’s Pavement Analyst information system. However, it can sometimes be less accurate than the current conditions of the road.
This research is designed to evaluate various technologies used to analyze information on the type of surfaces. Those measures include video capturing, lasers, 3D scans, and artificial intelligence. The techniques studied will be used to create a final system to be evaluated and delivered for implementation.
