I decided to upgrade to a Google Pixel 7 and figured I would see how well it handles video game emulation. For 3DS games, I am testing them first at 2x resolution, which actually looks really nice and crisp on the phone's display.

The Citra MMJ emulator is branch of the popular Citra emulator. It works a bit better on Android devices than the official builds. However, at the time of testing, a lot of games freeze/crash (both with MMJ and the official Citra releases) when playing on Android.

I am using a PS4 controller connected via Bluetooth with this emulator. For games that require you to use a touch screen, you can just touch your actual screen too.

I am using the phone's built-in video screen recorder. Note that it can have a small impact on performance, so if a game appears slightly jerky but the FPS remains solid, it typically plays smooth as butter on the phone when not recording.

GOOGLE PIXEL 7 SPECS:
- 6.3-inch OLED / 20:9 aspect ratio / Up to 90Hz screen
- Google Tensor G2 CPU
- Mali-G710 MP7 GPU
- 8 GB LPDDR5 RAM
- 128 GB or 256 GB UFS 3.1 storage
- October 13, 2022 street release date

I left most of the Citra MMJ emulator settings at their defaults, but here are some settings to note:

RENDERER
- Use Dual Core [x]
- Screen Layout: Default
- Internal Resolution: 2x
- Show FPS [x]
- Enable Hardware Shader [x]
- Shader Type: Separate Shader (Unstable) -- Try this or Normal Shader with Cache

SYSTEM
- Enable CPU JIT [x]

You can map the controller by tapping the 3 dots in the top-right corner of the emulator and then tap on "Input Binding."

Roms need to be decrypted in order to play them with this emulator. You'll need to use Google or search here on YouTube for more about that. Please don't ask for roms!
