The immigration detention center in the Everglades dubbed Alligator Alcatraz may be closing soon. Groups suing to shut down the facility say they want to make sure it not only closes, but that something like this can’t happen again.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement says all of the detainees at the detention center have been transferred. But attorneys suing to close the facility say even with the people removed, it’s still harming the environment.

Almost one year ago to the day, environmental groups sued to close the facility.

Attorneys say they have new information to present and will head back to court this month to not only close the facility, but remediate the harm they say it’s caused.
