Here is an uncut video of quenching 10 grams of tosyl azide using acetylacetone and sodium hydroxide in water/acetonitrile followed by the decomposition of diazoacetone with sodium nitrite and sulfuric acid.

I decided that storing tosyl azide which was over one year old was unsafe and that it was best practice to dispose of the tosyl azide I wasn’t planning to use in the immediate future. Tosyl azide has a reputation to explode upon mechanical pressure so it can be very hazardous if not handled properly.
