Destiny 2's Lore and Story tells us about how Maya is starting to butt heads with the memory within her echo of command. This memory is of a Qugu, a dead species that was ended by Oryx the Taken King. The Qugu in particular is called Te'qal and he was a mighty fleet command of the Qugu who was brought into the Final Shape. Now it appears that Maya's Echo might be turning against her in the aftermath of the death of III. He may have seen Maya's Madness step too far at this point.
