"In this Design for All Generosity film, learn about how Michael Graves and his team created the scaffolding used in the restoration of the Washington Monument in Washington D.C.

Hear from Donald Strum – the Principal of Product Design at Michael Graves Architecture & Design – as he explains the thought process behind the creation, implementation, and impact of the scaffolding.

Instead of simply covering the famous landmark with a functional protective layer during years of restoration, Michael and his team reimagined the design of scaffolding to combine beauty, functionality, and ecological responsibility. In fact, the temporary scaffolding was so well received that it was kept up during the Y2K celebration in Washington D.C., becoming an iconic American image in its own right."
