With a new school year underway, the City of Des Plaines is sharing a few back-to-school safety reminders for students, families, and drivers.
Mark your calendars and bring the whole family over for a day of fun fire safety education. Explore fire trucks, meet our brave firefighters and learn life-saving safety tips at Fire Station 63 (130 E. Thacker) on September 19, 2026 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. We’ll have demonstrations, community organizations, family activities and more for residents of all ages.
In observance of Labor Day, all City of Des Plaines government offices will be closed on Monday, September 7. Essential services such as police and fire will remain fully operational. Refuse collection will be delayed by one day throughout the service week. The Labor Day holiday will also shift the next City Council meeting to Tuesday, September 8 at 7 p.m.
