Justin Charles Turner, 6/16/1984 was listed as Missing and Endangered, and possibly suicidal. Turner was believed to be in Alachua County, and ASO deputies located him south of Waldo on NE US Hwy 301 on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. Deputies performed a traffic stop, and when Turner exited the vehicle, he held a large kitchen knife to his chest and then his throat numerous times. Members of our Negotiations Response Team arrived on scene to assist with de-escalation. Turner refused to comply and continued to ignore numerous verbal commands to drop the knife. Deputies deployed a less than lethal device effectively, causing Turner to drop the knife. He was subsequently taken into custody, and received immediate medical attention before being taken to an area hospital as a precaution. Once medically cleared, he was transported to the jail for Resisting without Violence. Additional charges, including Felony Domestic Battery and Felony Child Abuse from Pinellas County are pending.
“I want to commend all the deputies on their extraordinary patience and for relying on their training throughout the roughly 30-minute period. Each of you did an exemplary job at coordinating and deescalating the incident to produce a favorable outcome for this event,” said Sheriff Emery Gainey.
