The City of Plymouth on the South West Coast of England, was once one of the most important cities within the British Empire, however now its one of the most deprived and poverty stricken cities in the UK. Having some of the highest rates of homelessness and poverty across the United Kingdom. With shocking statistics like "over 1 in 3 children in Plymouth are growing up below the Poverty line", adding to the cities woes Plymouth this year has been voted as the 2nd dirtiest city in the UK and national tabloids describing Plymouth as "Grim" and one of the worst cities in the UK. I went to 'Ocean City' to see for myself if Plymouth was as grim as they say! What i found on the streets of Plymouth shocked me... countless homeless people living on the streets and an overwhelming number of closed down, abandoned shops. Plymouth City Centre has been hit hard with streets filled with derelict and abandoned buildings right in the heart of the city. It was during Street Interviews that I truly got a grip of the desperation & depression felt by those that feel abandoned on the streets of Plymouth. What has happened to this once great City? Will anything change for the city of Plymouth and those that have been hit hardest?
