This easy homemade apple butter is the kind of old-fashioned, Depression Era cooking we love—simple ingredients, no fancy techniques, and a delicious way to use apples without spending a lot of money!
I’m showing you how I make one of my absolute favorite apple recipes from scratch using apples, sugar, cinnamon, cloves and a little salt. Just mix everything together, let the apples cook down until they’re soft, blend them smooth and let the apple butter cook until it’s thick, rich and full of flavor. And your house will smell AMAZING while it cooks!
This is also a great way to use apples you’ve frozen when you didn’t have time to do anything with them. Homemade apple butter is delicious on toast, biscuits, pancakes and more—and it’s another example of how easy scratch cooking can help you save money without spending all day in the kitchen.
