Hunter X Hunter (2011) was without a doubt one of the most amazing Shounen Anime I have ever seen and every single 148 episodes were absolutely worth watching. Especially the Chimera Ant Arc is so incredibly well done, it has become one of my favorite story arcs of all time. If anyone out there still haven't watched this Anime: Go and watch it now! (and avoid any spoilers on the internet)
Honestly, after watching the final episode, I felt an emptiness I haven't felt for a very long time. It took me almost half a year to finish all episodes and it was hard to say goodbye to the characters I grew to love. Hunter X Hunter has eventually become one of my top 10 favorite Anime series I have ever watched and this week, I am really happy to present you the special-type piano arrangement for the opening song!
I was quite surprised that Hunter X Hunter has been keeping the same opening song (with some variations) for all 148 episodes. But the song was so catchy I almost never skipped it while watching the Anime. But unlike the original song, this piano arrangement starts with a slower version of the chorus melody because I wanted to introduce the song with a nostalgic atmosphere. At 00:49, the second part of this arrangement begins and it describes the humble beginning of the protagonist. The melody is played in a carefree manner and it's slowly building up its momentum.
And finally, 02:07 is the turning point of this arrangement. I was imagining the sunrise suddenly appearing in the horizon (similar to the Anime opening animation), signalizing the start of a big adventure. From this point on, the piece continues with its original upbeat tempo until the end.
A special mention also deserves 04:14. If you have seen the Anime, I was imagining Gon and [spoiler character] sitting at the top of the world tree and just looking at the amazing scenery in front of them. That's why the music has suddenly calmed down at this part and the chorus melody is being played in the highest voice possible.
I was also thinking how to bring this arrangement to a satisfying conclusion. I decided to go with a big orchestra finale in 05:09, because I want to bid farewell to the vast world of Hunter X Hunter. But at the same time, I am still optimistic that the journey will continue ... one day... perhaps... eventually... (please Togashi sensei, return from your hiatus...)

I really love to tell stories with music only and a piano medley gives me the perfect opportunity to do so.
Also, I usually end piano medleys with a grand finale, but I made an exception for this one. The last part of this piano medley has an atmosphere of an epilogue. A final goodbye - to the wonderful world of Kono Suba.

Sirius is pretty much one of the most uplifting anime songs I have ever heard, because whenever Aoi Eirs powerful voice is hitting the high notes during the chorus, I feel like an incredible energy is soaring through my body. With other words: Its the perfect opening song for Kill la Kill, with its over-the-top action scenes and its crazy story development.
I am a big fan of the composer Hiroyuki Sawano and when Kill la Kill was still airing in 2013 I already have arranged two soundtracks for the piano: Blumenkranz and the iconic Dont lose your way (Youtube link at the bottom). But last week I realized I still havent arranged any of the OP or ED songs yet and thats why I decided to arrange the iconic opening Sirius for this weeks upload!
Interestingly, Sirius is the only song I have ever arranged, where the verse part (A-melody) from 00:17 - 00:27 is NOT repeating. I was completely surprised, because in 99% of all anime songs the Verse (A-melody) is being repeated. But Sirius instead immediately went to the Pre-chorus (B-melody) in 00:27 and then jumped straight to the chorus. In fact, was so used to the typical song structure, I accidentally repeated the Verse (A-melody) again during practice, and I didnt noticed that mistake at all until I listened the original song again.
It has also been a while since I used arpeggios as an ornament to emphasize the long notes during the chorus, such as in 00:50. It used to be my favorite technique in my older arrangements (for example in This Game or Swordland) because they are comparatively easy to play and they can create a impressive sound wall almost instantly. But nowadays I prefer using scales as ornaments since they are more interesting to listen to.
Sirius also has a disproportionate long chorus section, since the verse is not repeated as mentioned above, and the chorus is being repeated three times as well. In order to make it sound less repetitive I included a short rhythmic interruption in the second chorus in 02:27 and a slow variation for the third chorus, starting at 03:17.
I also sneaked in an alternative chord progression for the melody in 03:28 to make the last chorus stand out even more and prolonged the transition to the final chorus to build up suspense and anticipation. Once the left hand is reintroducing the chorus melody again in 03:49, the whole piano is literally exploding in excitement in the next moment and the last chorus is being played in all its glory - including the arpeggios again.

My Steinway Piano is finally back! After being separated for more than 8 months, I am so happy to be able to play on a grand piano again. It took me almost one week of nonstop practice to get used to the heavy keys of a Steinway again because I was playing on an electrical piano since January 2021.
To celebrate the return of my instrument, I decided to upload the much-requested song「There is a Reason」from『No Game No Life: Zero』, which is essentially the spiritual successor of my 「This Game」piano arrangement. They both feature extensive arpeggio passages, fast three-hand techniques and a super exciting finale part – with other words: Just pure fun to play!
I used a very uncommon left-hand pattern in the first chorus in 1:11, because I really liked how the guitar instrument is building up the tension in the original song and I wanted to imitate that sound on the piano. I can’t believe a simple octave left hand pattern can actually sound that exciting - sometimes simple is really the best.
My favorite part of the original song is the key change in 3:36 because I absolutely didn’t expect the chorus being played in E-minor instead of F#-minor. Usually, J-pop songs are using the key change for the final repeat of the chorus, but「There is a Reason」 basically reversed that order. Really awesome passage and I actually consider this as the actual climax of the entire song. That’s why I omitted the pedal on the piano for this part to make it stand out even more.
Last but not least, I was actually planning to play a small modulation in 3:50 to make a smoother transition from E-minor back to F#-minor, but I realized the best flow of music is achieved by simply jumping back to F# minor, like the original song. A quick glissando is really the ultimate “cheat code” if you want to do a key change instantly!

『Your Name.』 was definitely one of the most iconic Romance Anime Movies of the last decade and until today, I still re-watch this movie at least once every year, just for the gorgeous visuals alone. I also jokingly call this movie a “2-hour Anime Music Video featuring RADWIMPS” because there are so many Insert Songs for this movie: 「Zen Zen Zense」, 「Nandemonaiya」, 「Katawaredoki」or「Yume Tourou」.
But the most important song is probably 「Sparkle」after all, because it’s featured prominently in the big climax in the movie, where the Comet is slowly approaching. I am 5 years too late, but here it is: My piano arrangement of the iconic song 「Sparkle」!
Since the central topic of the movie was “being connected to each other”, I tried to represent it in the music as well. If you listen closely, you will notice that there are many times, where the “voices” of Taki and Mitsuha are collaborating with each other. The “Sparkling” right hand Ornaments in 1:19 for example or the dream-like right hand melody in 3:03.
The most interesting part however starts from 4:04 onwards. After a long musical build-up, the Comet is falling through layers of cloud in the sky in 4:12 and what follows is a long moment of silence. Complete darkness. And then – from very far away – a miracle is happening in 4:22 because the world lines start to connect with each other again.
First, only the voice of Taki is playing in 4:39, but soon afterwards Mitsuha can be heard as well in 4:58. The music slowly builds up and finally, after many years, they find each other in 5:25 and that’s where the music is also reaching is Grand Finale. As a finishing touch, I also added some “Shooting Stars” in the right hand in 6:06 to give both Mitsuha and Taki my blessings – because why not.

After weeks of delay, I finally managed to record my piano cover of one of the most iconic Kill la Kill soundtracks: Before my Body is dry (more known as DONT LOSE YOUR WAY)
This piece was a real challenge to transcribe and Ive edited the transcription numereous times until I was completely satisfied. My first draft for this piece was only 1:50 long, and it consisted the first chorus only. But then I decided to make a full version after all.
Instead of copy pasting the chorus again, I wrote a variation of the second chorus. I experimented with many different piano techniques for this sheet, therefore, its difficulty is pretty high. I think this transcription ranks among my top 10 most difficult transcriptions I ever made. Especially the massive high speed octave slashing in the end is a real challenge for every pianist.
As mentioned earlier on facebook, I cut out the rapping part from the original track and replaced it with my own transition. (I used the same method for my Euterpe piano sheet, lol)
Fun fact: this piece is played 80% on black keyes because it has 7 accidentals (e-flat minor)
Last but not least, congratulation to Hiroyuki Sawano for delivering another amazing soundtrack after Shingeki no Kyojin and Guilty Crown. He know how to create a adrenaline-pumped atmosphere with his compositions.
For some reason, my most difficult piano covers I ever made are soundtracks composed by him. Coincidence?
...

On That Day, Humanity Received a Grim Reminder.
The moment, when Eren’s mother was eaten. The moment, when Eren transformed the first time into a titan, roaring of anger. The moment when Armin was desperately convincing the garrison to not attack Titan-Eren, fearing for his life. All these emotionally heavy scenes were accompanied by「Vogel im Käfig」in the anime.
Personally, this is one of my favorite Soundtracks from Hiroyuki Sawano and it could be regarded as the closest thing to a “symphonic poem” in the Attack on Titan soundtrack. The hauntingly beautiful beginning, the combination of different “chapters” in the music, and the incredible dramatic climax at the end – 「Vogel im Käfig」has it all.
Because this piece is such a cinematic masterpiece, it was the ultimate challenge for me to create a piano arrangement with a similar emotional intensity as the original soundtrack. There are many moments of “silence” in this arrangement such as in 0:35, 1:41 or 2:39 and they all serve a vital role in the music as a breather between each musical chapter.
In my opinion,「Vogel im Käfig」could be divided in the following 6 musical chapters:

0:00 A bird in the sky
0:37 The world we are living in
1:45 A new hope
2:42 All living things will die
3:13 Our fate and destiny
4:56 We will fight
With other words, the 6 minutes and half of this arrangement is serving mainly one purpose: Building up the music until the world (literally) crashes down in 4:56. For this purpose I thought of every possible way to maximize the tension in the piano arrangement such as three hand technique in 4:56 or super fast left hand arpeggios in 5:44.
Last but not least, it is also interesting to note that 「Vogel im Käfig」 is being played in the second half of 「YouSeeBIGGIRL」and having a similar role as the musical climax at the end. I guess the finale of 「Vogel im Käfig」is just too good, haha.

If you are reading this, I just want to say thank you for still listening to my Youtube channel.
I am sorry for disappearing unceremoniously for almost 5 months since my last upload on Youtube and not updating my Twitter account for almost 2 months.
I was working on a lot of stuff and it took me much, much longer than expected. Basically, I needed to reorganize my life circumstances and after 5 tiresome months, its finally cleaned up somewhat.
Im sorry but I cant really disclose the full details here and I hope you can understand that.

I AM FINALLY BACK AND BOY DOES IT FEEL GOOD
In the past few months I actually caught up most anime series from 2017 and 2018 and there were tons of anime music I really want to cover in the future.
My passion for anime (and the otaku culture in general) has finally completely returned after 2 years of absence and currently I am catching up with the anime series from spring season 2019.
There is one important matter I want to discuss with everyone here:
Regarding all the past promised sheets and songs I was planning to finish (like the Boku no Hero Academia sheets): please give me a chance today to completely reboot myself and forget about them completely.
I lost track of the huge amount of dropped/abandoned/cancelled projects, because I was always struggling to finish the projects due to my own high standards: to deliver the best classical music influenced anime piano covers on youtube possible.
Therefore:
Starting today, I will not make any promised future projects anymore. Just look forward to the next surprise piano cover.
I will start to update my twitter account as well after the 2 months of break and if you have any personal messages for me, feel free to direct message me on twitter (but please no song requests! I have too many of them already....)

After the worldwide hit Anime movie 「Kimi no na wa」 the expectations for Makoto Shinkais next movie 「Tenki no Ko」 were sky high in 2019. Naturally, I went to the cinema on the very first opening day and I was simply stunned by how beautiful the entire cinematography was. The vivid color palette, the way how each raindrop was meticulously animated, the amazing background visuals - this movie was simply beautiful to watch.
But my favorite scene is definitely the moment, where 「Grand Escape」 is playing, during the climax of the movie. Everything was just coming together perfectly in that moment and it reminded me again, why I love being an Anime fan. Because I live for these magical moments like these where everything just feels right.
By the way, the full version of「Grand Escape」 has a really unique song structure because the real chorus is only played at the very end of the song. With other words, all the music before the climax in 3:42 is just a huge buildup.
The main challenge of this arrangement was to figure out that complicated right hand pattern in 0:15, because three different rhythms are combined into one hand. This part may look easy but it is very difficult to coordinate, once you add the left hand in 0:28. But not only that, I would say that the entire piece sounds like its being played by three hands because of the multiple voice layers on the piano.
Another highlight of this arrangement would be the high jumps in 2:04. I was imagining the clear sky scenery in the anime and I wanted to somehow translate the lofty atmosphere to the piano as well. Also, if this piano arrangement would be played by an orchestra, I would let the violins play these high notes.
Last but not least, the climax in 3:42 I really wanted to include that cheerful hand clapping from the original music into the piano, so I used the three hand technique again to let the right hand play the CLAP CLAP CLAP. This is one of the few times, where the left hand is literally going all out and play the most glorious forte fortissimo ever!
Alright, that would be everything for Grand Escape! Next week I am going to arrange another Anime Movie song again!

This weeks upload is the opening song of the first season of Haikyuu!! I still remember the high intensity Volleyball matches in Haikyuu!!, where the situation can change very quickly in every minute and I was really looking forward to a new episode every week.
When arranging this song, I noticed the full version of Imagination is only 3 minutes long. It is probably one of the shortest opening songs in my recent memory. But nonetheless, this song still packs a lot of power and it serves as a perfect opening song for such a high-tension Sports Anime like Haikyuu!!.
The arrangement is following the same structure as the original song and I spent a lot of time to translate the guitar solo part in the bridge 02:04 into the piano. After many trial and error, I created a piano version with a similar rhythmic energy, but also included a fast octave passage at 02:17. I also slightly extended the ending part at 02:47, by adding a small transition at the end of the song and repeated the beginning melody again with a slight variation to bring the song in a satisfying harmonic conclusion.
In a way this arrangement is a textbook example of my typical arrangement style: utilizing different voices for each repeating section, keeping a steady rhythmic energy in the left hand, and structure the whole arrangement with a proper beginning and a proper end.

This piano arrangement is dedicated in memory of the 36 people who passed away in the Kyoto Animation arson attack exactly one year ago, on the 18th July 2019. It is without a doubt one of the biggest tragedies in the history of Anime and we all mourn the loss of talented individuals and legendary creators, who have unfortunately perished on that day.
Kyoto Animation has created countless masterpieces and they have brought joy and delight to many Anime fans in the world for almost two decades. Suzumiya Haruhi, Lucky Star, Clannad After Story, K-ON!, Hyouka, just to name a few. For me, the arson attack was one of the most devastating days I ever had in my 15 years as an passionate Anime fan and even until today, I am still deeply affected by this incident.
This arrangement of Sincerely is my tribute to Kyoto Animation for its one year memorial and its slightly different than my usual uploads. There are two key elements in this arrangement: flowing right hand movements and the appearance of the main theme of Violet Evergarden: A-C-G-A. This small motif is being featured very prominently in the original Soundtrack of Violet Evergarden and I decided to use it as my personal message to the listeners.
The arrangement starts with a slow variation of the chorus melody and its introducing a melancholic atmosphere at the beginning. Soon afterwards it changes the key to b-minor in 00:39 and the verse starts to play, symbolizing the start of a long journey. The flowing right hand movement appears for the first time in 01:45, to serve as an introduction for the Chorus part and to act as a buffer for the key change from b-minor to d-minor.
During the transition in 02:36, the main theme from Violet Evergarden is appearing for the first time in B-minor (F#-A-E-F#) and it serves as a foreshadowing for the later parts in the arrangement. The flowing right movement is returning again in 03:03, representing one of my favorite moments in the Anime: the fantastic umbrella scene in episode 7, where Violet was seemingly floating above the lake.
The arrangement continues as the original song but the music unexpectedly comes to a halt at 04:56. Because in 5:11, I am starting to play my tribute to KyoAni.
The main theme of Violet Evergarden is being played again and the left hand is playing a tremolo now, imitating the string instruments of an orchestra. The intensity of the music is slowly rising until it is culminating in the big climax in 05:41. This is the loudest forte I have ever played in my life and I released all my emotions on the piano in that moment.
The tremolo in the left hand is continuing until its finally released with the return of the chorus in F major, and this time the entire orchestra is playing. Variations of the chorus are played, the flowing right hand is returning again in 06:42 and the music is slowly fading away with each repeat, until it finally reaches the end in 07:46.
Initially, the music would have ended here, but I wanted to include a more positive message in my tribute. I believe there is still hope and that KyoAni will return one day. The right hand plays the main theme A-C-G-A again but this time its a little bit hidden within the chords. The violin tremolo is returning as well and the music is swelling up until it finally unleashes a bright and optimistic F-Major chord. It symbolizes the rebirth of KyoAni, where it slowly rises from the ashes, only to shine brighter, than it ever has.
If you have read this far, I want to thank you for your patience for reading the story behind the creation of Sincerely. This is one of the most special arrangements I have ever written and to be honest, after recording this heavy piece, I feel a little bit empty inside. But I will still continue doing my best.

I still cannot believe Little Busters! is finally getting an Anime adaption this season because I absolutely love the story of Little Busters. The heartwarming story about the ironclad friendship between Riki and his four childhood friends have moved me very deeply and I think I have shed more than a few times manly tears when I was playing the Visual Novel.
Since Little Busters! has a special place in my heart, Ive decided to create a FULL version piano arrangement for the first time on my YouTube Channel. I am including some variations in the second verse to give the arrangement a little bit more flavor, but I mostly stayed true to the original atmosphere of the song. I think starting today, I will only arrange full version songs for the piano, because its much more interesting to come up with all these variations and transitions, compared to the short TV size I was doing until now.
I still wish that Little Busters! was adapted by Kyoto Animation instead of J.C. Staff. Imagine KyoAnis legendary animation quality with the emotional story of Little Busters... it might even surpass the goodness of other Key Anime like Clannad, Air or Kanon (2006), because the story is simply so good. Still, I am very satisfied with the anime series by J.C. Staff because Characters are very true to their original in the Visual Novel.
