Denver, CO — On Wednesday morning, local unhoused advocacy group Housekeys Action Network Denver (HAND) presented their findings to the Denver City Council from surveys they conducted throughout January and February 2024 about winter shelter accessibility. The advocates also used “data from City shelter records, and experiences of advocates assisting houseless people.”
Unicorn Riot is covering a press conference about the report on Wednesday afternoon.
According to their report, Denver does not have enough shelter space for all houseless people seeking shelter in cold weather.
“HAND’s Cold Weather Shelter Access Survey results showing 66% of people being turned away from night shelters aligns with the City-acquired shelter data showing shelters being over-capacity nearly 67% of nights.”
