🇩🇰🍇🍷 I bet Denmark isn’t the country you imagine when you think of European wine destinations - we didn’t - then we learned that climate change and advances in growing technology have given Denmark an emerging wine region. Take that, France!
It’s all possible because cold-weather grapes thrive in a few of Denmark’s micro-climates. These areas get warmer average temperatures and an average of 100 extra sunny days per year - don’t ask how many the rest of Denmark gets.
Anyway, the most established Danish wine vineyards form an arc from the east coast of Jutland, over the island of Samsø and into Western Zealand.
We visited the Røsnæs peninsula and the vineyards that lie along the Kalundborg Fjord. We biked from the station, along the picture-perfect poppy fields, and did a tasting at Dyrehoj Vingaard - We even went for a swim in the fjord on our way back.
If you’re visiting Denmark this is definitely a place to explore, and it’s a perfect day trip from Copenhagen. You will love it!
