At the start of this stage we're treated to a cutscene of Mitsuhide commanding demons to slaughter some people. It's not clear if he's doing this on his own or if it's on orders from Nobunaga, but to keep up fooling Inugami and Aoi, he helps at the end of the stage.
This is possibly the hardest stage in the game, or perhaps the most annoying. I had to restart it because you can't brute force it. I tried just going straight to the main Blood Crystal, but it's protected by all the other ones around it, so you HAVE to destroy them all, meaning you want to be slow and methodical. At first you can't even really do anything about it because it's just Inugami, you have to wait for Hideyoshi to show up with huge reinforcements to help. Then slowly go around the map taking down all the Blood Crystals.
