One of the top local races to watch this primary election was between two Democrats.

Florida House Democratic Leader Fentrice Driskell won the Democratic primary for one of Tampa Bay's state Senate seats. There is no Republican challenger. That means Driskell has won Florida Senate District 16, which includes parts of Hillsborough and Pinellas counties.

It's one of the state's most Democratic districts. She beat her legislative Democratic colleague Representative Michele Rayner. The district's current senator, Darryl Rouson, is term limited.
