The AR/VR Capstone class at UW CSE (University of Washington's Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering) challenges students to work collaboratively and develop an Augmented or Virtual Reality app over the course of 10 weeks. Hardware is often made available to this class before it is commercially available. Students learn how to program for those devices and also have lectures on the history and possible future directions of the field.
The projects:
• VR Dodgeball (networked multiplayer game built with AFRAME)
• Who's the Murderer (collaborative VR role-playing game)
• Event Horizon (cooperative VR game on a damaged space station)
• GuitXR (AR aids for learning and practicing guitar)
• BallARS (Improve your free-throw in AR)
• Apollo 15 (Explore the moon like the Apollo 15 Astronauts)
• Zendin (build/customize your own zen garden and then meditate or practice yoga in it)

In 2021, the class was held virtually, because of the global health pandemic. Students STILL formed teams, developed original apps, and displayed them at Dem Day. But it was all done from their homes! We instructed them in WebXR, Croquet, A-frame... And supplied each student with either a Quest Two or Magic Leap One headset.
