Ashford International Truckstop will be the largest truckstop in Europe once completed, providing secure daytime and overnight parking for 600 HGVs.
Constructed by GSE Building & Civil Engineering, as part of the larger Waterbrook site, it is expected to create nearly 1,000 jobs, plus retail space, 400 homes and parkland.
GSE Building & Civil Engineering and the consultant Engineers, Cannon, collaborated with ACO Water Management on a value engineering solution using the ACO Qmax high-capacity slot drainage system.
This reduced the drainage runs across site from five to just three.
The design was developed using the ACO QuAD Hydraulic design with intermediate Qmax 350 units selected.
The number of outlets was also reduced, decreasing the joining underground network needed, while the outflow rate was also maintained. This allowed a sustainable outflow of water to an attenuation pond adjacent to the site.
Q-Flow composite edge rails were selected, a tough and durable construction to cope with the HGV traffic and designed for accurate vertical and horizontal alignment across the kilometre length of Qmax installed on site.
