EvilmonkeyzDesignz | Delidding a Ceramic SMD Component - SAW Filter @EvilmonkeyzDesignz | Uploaded May 2020 | Updated October 2024, 9 hours ago.
This is a demonstration of the technique I use to open up these types of ceramic SMD components with metal lids. I'm pretty sure these lids are not simply soldered on (some might be) and the best method I have used is to sand them with sandpaper. I realized after recording the audio for the video that my "medium" interpretation of sandpaper does not align with reality. 320 grit is generally classified as "extra fine". Whoops!
Timestamps:
0:42 - Start of Sanding
2:32 - Removal of Lid fragment with tape
3:14 - Inside contents reveal
3:32 - Microscope 1 view
4:32 - Microscope 2 view
The part in question is a SAW Filter from muRata, PN: SF2039B. In this instance, SAW refers to Surface Acoustic Waves, and its how these parts operate. The Wikipedia page on Saw Resonators has a lot of great information about these parts if you are interested in how they function.
