I show you how to make champurrado, a Mexican hot chocolate traditionally drunk with tamales during the Christmas season! It's simple, quick, & easy! Click "Show More" to see the full recipe.

CHAMPURRADO RECIPE (makes about 4-6 servings)
~Ingredients~
- 3 cups water
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1/2 cup masa harina (instant corn masa)
- 3 oz. piloncillo OR 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/2 disk Mexican chocolate (Nestle Abuelita or Ibarra brand recommended)
- 2 cups whole milk
~Directions~
1) Put the cinnamon sticks & 3 cups of water in a pot & bring to a boil
2) Take pot off of the heat & set aside. Let cinnamon sticks steep for 10 minutes
3) Chop up 1/2 disk of Mexican chocolate
4) Remove cinnamon sticks from water. Return pot to medium heat & slowly add masa harina, while whisking out any clumps. Keep whisking vigorously to prevent more clumps from forming.
5) After the masa harina is fully worked in, mix in the chocolate, milk, & piloncillo (or dark brown sugar)
6) Fully mix everything in, and keep on medium heat for about 15 minutes or until it thickens up. Keep whisking throughout to prevent clumps from forming
7) Once it has thickened up, it is ready to serve!
8) Let the champurrado sufficiently cool down before enjoying it, so you don’t burn yourself! Keep in mind that this is a thick liquid and may take longer to cool down than regular hot chocolate.
