The jobs of tomorrow don't all exist yet and Miami University is preparing students for exactly that reality. With a forward-thinking approach to quantum computing and artificial intelligence, Miami has developed a degree program built around an "AI plus X" model, where students combine a foundation in quantum computing or AI with a concentration in a field of their choosing. From healthcare and cybersecurity to finance and drug discovery, the program equips students with both the technical depth and domain knowledge needed to solve real-world problems that matter.
Hands-on experience is central to the Miami experience. Students gain access to commercial quantum computing platforms like AWS, an on-campus quantum simulator, and research collaborations with institutions like the Cleveland Clinic, where internship opportunities allow them to apply quantum computing to live healthcare challenges. Faculty across the program actively mentor students in cutting-edge research areas, and partnerships with startup companies give students a taste of entrepreneurial, real-world problem solving long before graduation.
What truly sets Miami's program apart is its liberal arts foundation, which grounds students not just as technologists, but as ethical, communicative, and collaborative thinkers. Students are trained to understand the broad societal impact of AI and emerging technologies, from developing road segmentation models using aerial imagery to exploring accessible urban navigation for wheelchair users. As these graduates move into the workforce, faculty express deep confidence that they are not only technically prepared, but morally grounded and ready to make a meaningful, positive impact on the world.
