This interview somehow got missed. It's from a couple of months back, I think before she did DWTS. She discusses the decision to do a TV show, and their lack of privacy as a result.
I have no problem with her reasons to do a TV show... initially. Legitimate need for income & opportunities for the family, letting people get a peek into their lives, and more time at home with the kids. But I think it quickly evolved and those reasons no longer exist. It's true that if they stepped back they would still have media scrutiny and attention & no pay check. I guess that's a price she's willing to pay, I don't know if all parents would be willing to put money before their children's privacy.
The part I find particularly disturbing is the very ending where she says they have a portion of money set aside for the kids... but that there isn't enough for them to go to college. Too bad they aren't protected by other child star rights like money mandated to be put away in a trust. Kate rightly put money aside for them, but there's no way it's enough. They pumped out about 100 episodes in a 2 year period. They were filmed being potty trained. They were too young to knowingly consent to being filmed. They are still too young to understand the complex ramifications of their parents decisions. All this and the kids didn't earn enough to pay for their own college?
