I’ve been loc’d for over 7 years now and one thing for sure, two things are certain — locs are easy to maintain but they hold EVERYTHING. I mean….everything. To deep clean I use 1/4 cup of Dawn soap with warm/hot water.
In the video, I said I do this wash every 6 months but I’m not gonna lie this time it was closer to a year since the last time I did a deep clean (life be lifing fam) and it definitely shows when you see how murky that water is 🤢
Will I be putting a reminder on my calendar to do this promptly in 6 months moving forward - yes. That being said, this isn’t all I do to clean my hair.
I shampoo my scalp 2-3x a week in the shower because I workout pretty often. I use the Viori shampoo bar for that.
I’ve never had any issues with mildew or mold in my locs because of my deep cleaning sessions.
Shout out to the sun. 🌞 It’s a really great antibacterial/anti-fungal tool for your locs. Just 15-30 minutes in direct sun after a wash gets my hair almost completely dry and helps prevent any issues.
