Have you ever wondered what happens to dead leaves and decaying organic matter? Without the help of a wide range of micro-organisms the world would be covered with dead biomass, instead these organisms break down dead organic matter, like the leaves in your yard, and recycle the molecules back into the environment for use by other plants and animals.
