I took my truck to a dealer for an exhaust problem. It was throwing several codes. I also mentioned I heard a rattle sound and when I changed the oil it looked like the rear main seal was leaking. this is a ram 3500 dually with 16,000 mi on it. the exhaust problem started at 4,000, mi. I've been to several dealers who can't seem to fix the problem. it's been at the dealer so far for 44 days. they said they've never seen a rear main seal on a Cummins engine go out with that many miles.
so far this dealer replaced the flex plate, and the rear main seal. remember that is taken over 44 days.
other dealers have replaced all the sensors in the exhaust and the DPF filter but I still keep getting the same codes.
they said the vehicle was ready to be picked up so I went there to inspect it and what I found was a bunch of oil all over the bottom of the truck and a dipstick that you can't use to check the oil in the transmission. how could they possibly have done this job correctly if after removing the transmission and torque converter they never checked the transmission fluid before telling me the vehicle is ready to be picked up. you could tell they never check the fluid because the dipstick stays in the dipstick tube and cannot reach the transmission. imagine if I started adding transmission fluid until it reached the line on the dipstick. I would have overfilled the transmission and caused a lot of damage that they would have blamed on me.
The moral of the story is always inspect your vehicle no matter who does the work.
