Death Stranding (2019)
Developed by one of my favorite game companies, Kojima Productions, and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. This is the first game from director Hideo Kojima after leaving Konami in 2015 (Fun Fact: The “Ko” in Konami represents the first two letters of Hideo Kojima’s last name). The director’s cut version was released in September 2021 for the PlayStation 5, then released again for Windows back in March 2022. This third-person, genre-defying, action-adventure, open-world, single player, “social strand system”, and post-cataclysmic horror game is set in the United States sometime in the near future. Following a series of supernatural events known as the Death Stranding, we focus on the playable protagonist, Sam Porter Bridges, as he traverses across a ravaged and desolate wasteland in an effort to deliver salvation from impending annihilation. Legendary game creator Hideo Kojima creates a new genre that is sure to leave an everlasting impression. Featuring well known actors, such as Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale, Hannibal, Marvel’s Doctor Strange, Lucasfilm’s Rogue One, Another Round, and Fantastic Beasts to name a few), Lea Seydoux (Bond Girl Madeleine from the newest James Bond series; Charlotte LaPadite from Inglourious Basterds), Lindsay Wagner (The lead actor in The Bionic Woman 1976-1978), and Troy Baker (Famous voice actor who plays: Joel Miller in The Last of Us franchise, Booker DeWitt in BioShock Infinite, Samuel “Sam” Drake in Uncharted 4, Rhys in Tales from The Borderlands, Snow Villiers in Final Fantasy XIII…the list goes on) and more. Incredible graphics backed by killer star performance and intriguing storylines, it's no wonder this game won The Game Awards 2019 award for Best Game Direction, Best Score/Music, and Best Performance (Mads Mikkelsen); and also the Golden Joystick Awards (2020) for PC Game of the Year.
