16-year-old American girl named Holly, travelled to Guling (Kuliang), Fuzhou, China to learn more about her ancestor, Dr. Mary Carleton, and her story in China. She meets historians/preservationists where they'll explain how Mary Carleton got to China, where she lived, how she helped the people. It's not just exploring her life, but also learning the meanings behind family heirlooms, delving into the life of Mary Carleton's adopted daughter and finally, the life that the people in Kuliang lived.
