OVC Round 2: Character Study. / Dean Winchester (from the CW's "Supernatural").

Of course, I had to choose Dean. He is, by far, my favourite character of all time, and I can't believe I've waited this long to dedicate a video to him. I guess I kept putting it off by fear of messing up, but OVC finally made me do it! So thank you!
Dean Winchester is so damaged, my stomach actually hurts when I think about it. Right from the start (from that nursery fire), his life has been a mess. He's always tried to protect his family, and although his father had the best of intentions, John put way too much weight on Dean's shoulders. He couldn't grieve his mother's death like any other normal kid. Like a little soldier, he had to be strong and look after his little brother.
Things only got worse when John died, sacrificing himself. That only made Dean feel guilty about being alive. Which pushed him to give his own soul for Sammy. But, well, he would have done it anyway. Sam was always his responsibility. He was his life.
Dean's gone to hell and back, literally. He got ripped to shreds, and tortured over and over again. He probably resisted longer than most people, when Alistair made the offer but that didn't matter. He felt guilty anyway. Resisting for 40 years didn't matter to Dean because he's always had that feeling of burden, of doing what's right.
Dean never believed in God, in angels, or anything that could save him. And although an angel actually did save him, he was right about one thing: chaos and violence. Even angels were dicks. Even angels tricked him and Sam into starting the apocalypse. But he still managed to trust Cas, somehow. He managed to let his walls down enough to consider Cas his best friend. And what did Cas do? Cas betrayed him. Now, I don't resent him for that, but the betrayal really didn't help Dean with his issues.
So yeah, messed up life. No wonder Dean tends to be suicidal.
And what I just wrote (what's in my vid too) doesn't even BEGIN to scratch the surface. There's still so much more to the character!

I chose to end the video with the scene from 4x10 "Heaven and Hell" cause Jensen's acting in this scene is INCREDIBLE (and so's the writing). I was actually crying in front of my laptop and that rarely ever happens. I felt SO moved by that scene, I swear, I was walking around like a ghost the whole day. The guy deserves awards and more.
