Living in the country, it is not uncommon to encounter electrical power outages. Most often, these occur as a result of storms or vehicle collisions with power poles. Recently however, it happened at 5:30AM on a calm morning when there was nothing but a slight sprinkle of rain coming down.
I happened to be sitting on my back porch drinking my first cup of coffee when I heard the familiar sound of a tree falling nearby. A snap of what sounded like a miniature lightning bolt and the blackening of all the security lights told me that we had just incurred an electrical outage. Altogether I knew instantly that the cause was likely in my front yard.
So, I grabbed a flashlight and my camera to go see what happened. Come along and see what I learned and how it was resolved... by the end, you'll see that this was not the first time we and our power company have dealt with this problem.
