Deafest was started in 2006 as Dunkelskog and reanimated in 2008 as Deafest. The threesome quickly became a one-man band continued by Chase until Brett joined the band on drums in 2009. Ever since Brett joined the band, Deafest has gone the instrumental route. Chase felt that his expression of the Colorado wild needed no voice just music.
Since the second full-length, Deafest plays an instrumental ode to the beauty and awe of nature (mostly Colorado nature). Black Metal is the base of the music. So their music can be described as the Rocky Mountain Black Metal.
