Kits World | Dead of Winter by S.J. Parris | Book Review | BookTube | Kit's World @kitsworld | Uploaded January 2021 | Updated October 2024, 1 day ago.
The Dead of Winter, by S.J. Parris (also known as Stephanie Merritt) is a three-book novella series comprising The Secret Dead, The Academy of Secrets, and A Christmas Requiem. Published in 2020, it serves as the prequel to the Giordano Bruno series first published a decade earlier.
With plenty of graphic blood and gore, this 16th century political and religious thriller draws the reader into the treacherous and dangerous city of Naples, Italy, during the brutal days of the Inquisition, and follows gifted young friar-in-training Giordano Bruno as he navigates the murky politics and deadly dangers of investigating scientific theories that could result in him being burnt at the stake as a heretic.
This is the first set of books I have discovered in 20 years that has properly excited and engaged me. What a thrilling discovery!
