In this episode we share exclusive cinematic footage of De Schans and Spreeuwenstein Castle from the air.
Welcome back to the channel. We’re travelling around the Netherlands and sharing with you the very best of this beautiful country.
De Schans is a defense structure south of Ouddorp built in the 17th century. The fortification was reconstructed with soil that became available during the construction of the N57 road.
Also just outside Ouddorp, and very close to De Schans, are the remains of the medieval castle Spreeuwenstein.
Research is currently being conducted on and around the hill in collaboration with an archaeological agency. The current owners, along with the historical association De Motte and with the cooperation and subsidy of the municipality of Goeree-Overflakkee and the province of South Holland, have made archaeological research possible.
