DBZ: make their debut on Dispatch Recordings with the Honest Truth EP, a release built on friendship, honesty, and a shared love for Drum & Bass.
Formed in Sydney five years ago, DBZ: started as weekly Thursday night studio sessions between friends looking to create something positive through music. What began as casual collaboration quickly evolved into a serious project, blending the distinct styles of Dauntless (Bill Kang), Blix (Craig McCulloch), and Zule (Lloyd Martin).
The Honest Truth EP reflects the realities of communication and friendship—being direct, honest, and sometimes confronting difficult truths. The title track “Honest Truth” was one of the first tracks the trio wrote together, falling into place naturally once the perfect vocal was found. “Terse” locks into a deep rolling groove driven by its signature stab melody, while “Heartbreak” delivers a more emotional edge, shaped by personal experiences and a vocal hook that captured the moment.
Inspired by everything from Jungle, Techstep, and Minimal to Jump Up, alongside influences from Heavy Metal, Reggae, and Classical music, DBZ: bring a broad musical perspective to their sound.
As lifelong anime fans and dedicated Dragon Ball Z followers, the name DBZ: felt like fate—especially when their initials matched perfectly.
