Come to Duke Chapel to honor deceased loved ones from your life at the Day of the Dead altar, known in Spanish as an "Ofrenda."
Duke sophomore Elizabeth Escobar Gomez, a member of Mi Gente, is one of many students contributing to this cultural and religious tradition, which is being presented at the Chapel through November 2.
You’re invited to participate in the Ofrenda by adding a photo, an object symbolic of a loved one, or a link to the paper chain. You can also visit “The Booth,” located next to the Ofrenda, to record a special video postcard memorializing a favorite memory of your departed loved one.
Stop by anytime to visit the Ofrenda—or join us for a festival outside Duke Chapel on Tuesday, October 21, from 6–7:30 p.m for a musical celebration honoring the lives and memories of those who came before us, blending tradition, community, and joy!
The Ofrenda is presented by Duke Chapel, Duke Arts, and Say the Thing with support from Duke student groups Mi Gente and Duke Mexican American Student Alliance (MASA).
