$Dolomites, Italy - Mountain Biking & Tre Cime di Lavaredo (ep 4) Dolomites, Italy - The fourth and final episode from hiking in Italy with Active Adventures. After battling snow and rain, today we’re happy to make our last big hike with semi-clear skies down into the green foothills of the Dolomites. It’s a peaceful and refreshing walk from around 2,000 meters up, back through the dense forest and past the grazing cattle to civilization. The most beautiful village of Cortina - our home base for the next few nights. This is the place I picture when I think of the Italian Dolomites. Colorful alpine chalets surrounded by steep mountain walls and a singular church bell tower at the center of it all. The next day, from the town of Cortina, we ride down an old railway line through some of the most iconic scenery in the Dolomites. 9 miles in, we have lunch right on Lago Di Dobbiaco. And after a slow cruise back to Cortina, and a quiet night in… we gear up for one final view of Tre Cime di Lavaredo the following day! Truth is, the weather on this trip hasn’t been perfect, but food and warmth by everyone in the mountain refugios has far made up for any wet clothes and runny noses. 8 days in the Italian Dolomites, and I have only seen a fraction of this region’s beauty. I will most definitely be back again to explore more, if for no other reason than the delicious cuisine.
