Part of the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Abra was once administered as part of Ilocos Sur before becoming a separate province in 1846. Its location between the Ilocos lowlands and the Cordillera interior has long made it a meeting point between different communities, with Ilocano settlements existing alongside the many Itneg or Tingguian groups whose traditions remain an important part of the province today.

Part of Region II (Cagayan Valley), Batanes is the smallest province in the Philippines and home to a close-knit community of Ivatan people whose culture has been shaped by the powerful winds and seas surrounding these remote islands.

It serves as the gateway to many of Northern Luzonās most iconic mountain destinations, including Mt. Pulag, the highest peak in Luzon. Though Baguio is geographically located within Benguet, the provinceās capital is La Trinidad, and beyond the cityās familiar cafĆ©s and mountain tourism lies one of the countryās most important food-producing landscapesāBenguet alone accounted for nearly 80% of CARās major vegetable production in 2024.
