I grew up just outside of DC but had never gone downtown during an inauguration to see the preparations.
Fences and barricades were everywhere as expected. Most of Union Station had been closed for a dinner to be attended by Trump. A long row of city buses was used to form a barrier around Columbus Circle.
NB that the music being piped in on the Mall was from the Lincoln Memorial. I didn't walk down there to see the crowds.
