📌 Zimmerman's Friend and Potential Getaway Ride Botched

• On July 14, Mike Smith opened fire on police officers in Florida, according to charging documents. A native of Waterbury, Smith was friends with Joshua Zimmerman and his entire circle. After being charged with first-degree murder of a police officer, Smith fled Florida, informing Zimmerman’s associates that he intended to die rather than return to prison. Smith made it to Georgia, where authorities eventually caught up with him. True to his word, Smith took his own life after killing a police officer in Florida. Throughout this ordeal, Smith was in communication with individuals connected to Zimmerman.

• That same day, Zimmerman was petrified as federal agents raided his mother’s home, unaware of the connection between the cop killer, the escaped prisoner, and the Waterbury “crew.”

• It’s possible that Mike Smith was enroute to pick up Zimmerman and head to Connecticut together, but that plan was cut short when authorities caught up with Smith.

⌇Zimmerman, a convicted rapist and accused murderer from Connecticut, has been on the run since 2023 after being charged with raping a male inmate. His criminal activities span across multiple states, leaving a trail of victims in his wake.

⌗ He used a gun that he stole from a relative for a previous kidnapping, rape, and attempted murder and fled to Houston, Texas, with his girlfriend, Keyanna Mercer.

⌗ Suspicious of her loyalty, he shot Keyanna in the head at point-blank range, killing her. After the execution style murder, the cold-blooded spree killer fled to Mississippi using Greyhound.

⌗ There, Zimmerman met a homeowner at a Home Depot and offered to help with landscaping and construction work. Days later, he attempted to kill the homeowner, robbed him, and stole his pickup truck to continue evading authorities. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, and Zimmerman was arrested shortly thereafter.

⌗ In a bizarre turn of events, Zimmerman escaped custody nine months later, walking out of a courthouse with a gun and other materials provided to him in a binder. He was reportedly given keys to free himself from handcuffs and leg shackles.

⌗ He then asked a local for a ride to Walmart at a gas station across from the courthouse. When the individual informed him that he was going to Memphis, Zimmerman responded, "That's even better." He was last seen in Memphis, Tennessee, on June 15, and has been a ghost ever since.

〉On July 18, Tina Petrillo, the mother of the escaped prisoner, further complicated the multi-state manhunt after confessing to sending him financial aid and communicating with him on the day of his escape.

⌗ She emphasized the dire consequences her involvement might have on her already troubled family, facing critical health challenges and the potential disruption of their lives.

"How can you let me go to jail, I have till Friday to give them something more or I get charged for the 3 phone calls and 3 CashApps I did the day you escaped." Petrillo wrote. "Never would I ever have done that knowing what you did. Why are you running from your mistakes?"

⌗ However, Petrillo has since retracted her statements.

〉Surveillance footage showcasing his escape was deleted at the same time authorities were scouring the region for the escapee. The courts issued a gag order barring the local district attorney from speaking on the situation until Zimmerman is captured.
