Here I am reading a shortened version of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by E. T. A. Hoffmann, (German: Nussknacker und Mausekönig) written in 1816, that went on to be adapted by Alexandre Dumas and then transformed into Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker ballet. This English translation, which reduces the original 14 chapters into one continuos prose, was taken from Little Folks’ Christmas Stories and Plays, edited by Ada M. Skinner, 1915.
🎶Musical accompaniment: Winter Waltz by Leimoti, as well as two extracts from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker suite, provided by EpidemicSound.
