▶ WATCH THE REST OF THE INTENSIVE
The first 4 weeks of this intensive are public here on YouTube. From week 5, the replays live inside my free community, where members follow along with daily check-in threads. Join free: skool.com/the-practice-room-pro/about
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm doing my own 8-Week Alternate Picking Intensive, all 56 days of it, and streaming the actual practice sessions. This is Day 12.
This is not a lesson. It's the real daily work: 12 exercises, 5 minutes each. Four pentatonic, four modal, four exotic (melodic minor, harmonic minor and friends). Everything is eighth notes at 80 BPM over a drone so you can hear the tonality of every note. The tempo never goes up. The goal is perfect accuracy, and speed grows out of that.
Every week there are 12 new exercises witihin the same categories.
Want to do the intensive yourself? It's one of four 8-week intensives inside Practice Room Pro, with the full week-by-week plan, printable tabs and Guitar Pro files, a practice log built specifically for this intensive, and my feedback on your playing as you go:
jonbjorkmusic.com/pro
The metronome and drone you see on screen is my own app, JB Timing Trainer:

While the stream is on: play along with the tab on screen, or do your own practice with me as company. Either way, we both practiced today. Questions welcome in chat, I answer between exercises.

![How To Hear & See The Modes - Daily Workout - Dorian
START HERE FIRST
If you clicked on this one first, go back to the Ionian video. Thats where I explain
how this whole thing works.
https://youtu.be/XDUITG-Qm9U
Same scale shapes as the last video, seen from a different perspective. All the white
keys on the piano, so to speak. What changes is where the root is, and what everything
sounds like against the drone.
HOW IT WORKS
90 seconds in each position. Do not make this super long. Its better to do this daily
and get it done.
11 positions on a 24 fret guitar.
Drone running the whole way, root note in gold, plus the color notes.
The note that makes this Dorian is the natural 6. Thats the one that separates it from
a regular minor scale, so listen for what it does against the drone.
A note being marked doesnt mean its a nice note to land on. It just defines that mode.
Youll hear this and make up your own mind about what notes you like.
Treat each shape like its its own instrument. Those are the only notes you have. Thats
the limitation.
Its not about making an amazing solo. Youre exploring the shape.
Dont look at the lowest note of the position and assume its the root. Thats the habit
this series is fixing.
And believe me, youve got to do the work here.
