I could not make this up. In August 1999, the American Nationalist Party, which also called itself the Knights of Freedom, received permits from Washington DC police and the National Park Service to march down Pennsylvania Avenue and then rally across the street from the White House.
Four people showed up - but they failed to march. A contingent of the 1,450 police that was mobilized to protect the Nazis is seen in this film, ready to do battle against an assortment of counter-protesters. However, Chief of Police Charles H. Ramsey, after consultation with the officers in charge, decides to allow the demonstrators to turn into a celebration. A drum circle soon formed, led by members of Positive Force DC.
The Nazi march organizer, a 20-year-old, South Carolina college student Davis Wolfgang Hawke, whose father is Jewish (Hyman Greenbaum) went on to make a fortune spamming ads on the Internet for penis enlargement pills. In 2004, AOL won a $12.8-million judgment against Hawke in America Online, Inc. v. Davis Wolfgang Hawke, et al. But he skipped out; his current whereabouts are unknown; however, rumors say that he may be in hiding in South America. AOL had planned to dig up buried gold and platinum on his parents' property in Massachusetts. He wants to use bulldozers to search for the treasure and satisfy a $12.8 million judgment that the company won in a U.S. court.
