In this video I show you how to do Motion Graphic trails in DaVinci Resolve. These are the ones you see me do when I repeat the movement of an object but it changes its color or texture. You can see it in my mograph transitions video on about every transition.

Update - instead of adding the opacity mask or the merge and background combo, you can just go onto the background node with the mask input and change the global in to a negative number so it exists before 0 and that should fix the time speed from not showing.
