From No More Dead Captives - Stop CAZA / Liberate GV Zoo Animals
"Our advocate network became aware of yet another example of how GVZOO may be mistreating their animals. Photos circulating on various social media platforms are drawing alarm because of the presentation of an incredibly emaciated female moose. From simple observations, folks are being moved to call the SPCA and report what they feel is an obvious example of some sort of abuse or cruelty. We are messaging media contacts out of concern for this individual and others held there. We must ask GVZOO to stop their ongoing history of tragic events.
Recently, despite their record of numerous premature or negligent deaths of African Megafauna in their history - they announced they were planning a massive expansion and construction on their grounds to convert half the park into an African Savannah safari-style attraction.
We can see they may even have issues addressing animals that are maybe even more suited to our climate than those who would normally live as wild individuals in Africa were they not wild-caught, or purpose-bred from wild caught animals for display. This event is not isolated. A little less than a year ago, a young girl was aggressed upon by a bear, sustaining significant injuries.
We have attached some information we have compiled over time after sustained in person protest after the tragic death of, but the reason it ends in 2015 is because that is when the GVZOO stopped publicly announcing deaths and even acquisitions in an attempt to limit the actions of anti captivity advocates. Recently, we were able to get confirmation of the female Black Panther having passed away, but this information was from having activists go into the zoo as paid guests and try to document who was missing, a difficult task given the size of the park.
Additionally, numerous reports have been issued by various watchdog and expert groups urging GVZOO to move away from high needs and sensitive exotic animals because of inadequate facilities, lack of experience, and tragic past results."
