Astile Doherty Productions | David Copperfield (1966) - 3 "A Long Journey" (Opening Titles) @AstileDohertyProductions | Uploaded June 2021 | Updated October 2024, 18 hours ago.
A short clip from 1966's David Copperfield, a 13-part BBC television serial starring Christopher Guard and Ian McKellen as the titular character. This clip is the introduction shown at the beginning of each episode, this particular one titled 3 "A Long Journey".
Unfortunately, only four of the thirteen episodes (3, 8, 9 and 11) are known to exist, safely preserved at the BFI Archives available for viewing free of charge via their Mediatheque service. You must sign up on the website and pre-book a visitation, but, to reiterate, you will NOT be charged for your session.

The four episodes themselves, while brought down somewhat by a lack of budget, general datedness and the fact that gaps exist due to the scattered handful that were preserved, come together to present a largely melodramatic, rather humorous adaptation with some sharp direction, brilliant performances and witty writing. I hope you get a chance to experience the surviving episodes for yourself one day. It is unknown if the other nine episodes have a chance of recovery, as no further discoveries have been made.
