Dave Allen made regular television appearances in the UK. The BBC aired his Dave Allen Show between 1972 and 1986. The shows were also broadcast in the United States, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, former Yugoslavia, Australia and New Zealand.
Cue dot
At the end of this clip, at the top right-hand side of the screen, a small, black-and-white flickering symbol, known as the cue dot, appears. They were used all the time on ITV, so regional TV companies broadcasting the programme you were watching could alert other ITV regions that a commercial break was coming and get their own regional adverts ready. Nowadays, the network presentation is centralised, and automated playback of recorded programmes means cue dots are only used for live programmes.
