After a long court battle, and after months of not seeing his four-year-old daughter, Colby was finally going to be with her again. Six days earlier, the court had ruled in his favor and granted him 50/50 custody of the little girl he shared with his ex-girlfriend, 25-year-old Rachiel Moore.
Given the tension between the two sides, the lawyers helped arrange the exchange. Rachiel’s family would drop the girl off to Colby at a Publix supermarket parking lot.
So Colby went to Publix and waited for the moment he had been longing for: being reunited with his daughter.
At around 6:30 p.m. on that fateful Sunday, March 19, 2023, the exchange happened. Colby then spent time out and went shopping with his daughter. Afterward, he drove her back to his apartment complex, arriving at about 9:30 p.m.
As he unloaded the groceries and carried them toward the apartment, a man approached him, said, “That’s what you get,” and fatally shot him in the face.
Colby’s body fell near the front door of his apartment. That is where he died.
Soon, police arrived to a frantic scene. The little girl was inside, crying and asking for her “daddy.” Officers removed her from the apartment and began their investigation.
Detectives quickly learned about the custody dispute. They decided they needed to speak with the child’s mother, Rachiel Moore.
It is Monday morning, March 20, 2023 — the day after the murder. Before they talk to Rachiel, cops talk to her fiance, Christopher. Here we go! Note - Christopher has moved on - good for him!
