I knew I wanted to do art for this story soon as I heard it; it has the same energy as "Trolled by John de Lancie" and I couldn't resist. Dang dating is awkward. RIP bootleg Shadow. Mom's meatloaf really is the best.

Shadow the Hedgehog fashion guy takes panda to a mall food court for a date. Awkward cringe texts, secondhand embarrassment, and holding hands without permission. Pizza or Chinese? Worst kiss. Dating right when Sonic Frontiers and Prime hit and the hype is real.

![Should You Switch to Toon Boom? Maybe Not. [Scribble Kibble #96]
Pros and cons of switching to Toon Boom and why it might be best to keep using Flash / Adobe Animate if thats your main program. Toon Boom and Flash are so completely different that almost nothing works the same way, which means learning both is a lot of work.
TUTORIALS: https://www.scribblekibble.com/episodes/tutorials/
CLASS: https://www.scribblekibble.com/class/
Given what I know now, this is the program I recommend learning first depending on your situation:
Studio Animator: Toon Boom
Hobbyist: Flash
Animator with No Money: Flash
Heavy After Effects User: Flash
Frame-By-Frame Animator: Toon Boom
Puppet Animator: Either, hedging towards Toon Boom. If you need to globally update character designs a lot and if you create puppets in 3rd party vector programs, Flash.
I should also mention there are changes coming to Adobe Animate (not sure when) that make it even more competitive with Toon Boom. I dont have an inside scoop on Toon Booms development, so I dont know what may be next on that side of things. There are plenty of other animation programs to choose from as well, TVPaint being the most notable.
► TOON BOOM CONS ◄
1. Expensive.
2. Doesnt work well with other programs. Exported SWFs break when imported to After Effects. Illustrator puppets dont import right. Only .mov files can be imported or exported. Managing imported audio is even more awkward than Flash (didnt think that was possible).
3. Multiple scenes and video editing program required.
4. Globally updating puppets takes forever.
5. Big file sizes.
6. Poor documentation.
► TOON BOOM PROS ◄
1. Way better drawing program.
2. Way better organization and animation environment.
3. Each layer has separate line and color layers within it.
4. Smart color picker.
5. Deformer and mesh animation tools (expensive version only).
6. Node view (expensive version only).

![Abstracted: Digital Circus Animation
What if every character had a unique abstracted form? What if the entire circus corrupted?
Except Kinger. Im pretty sure Kinger will outlive the heat death of the universe, and twinkies.

Characters are from The Amazing Digital Circus, a wacky indie animation: https://youtu.be/HwAPLk_sQ3w
This video includes Jax, Ragatha, Pomni, Queenie, Kaufmo, Zooble, Gangle, Bubble, Moon and Sun, Caine, Kinger. Most of them abstract. I wanted to draw eyes all over the corrupt squares for Queenie, but holy fright I am never doing shading and highlights on a personal animation ever again because it consumed a disgusting number of hours. *slams things around*

![Best Animation Export Settings Tutorial [Scribble Kibble]
Something every animator should know, yet never gets taught. If you post videos online I recommend this tutorial. Codecs! Alpha Channels! Bitrate!
This is a lot of technical information that might turn your brain to soup, but I kept it as simple as I could. Animations are no different than PNGs and JPGs. Quality (and all your hard work) gets lost if you arent saving your video files a certain way. Please share this with your fellow animators - its something I wish I had known 10 years ago and only learned due to being around people who edit videos for a living.

⭐️ BEST EXPORT SETTINGS ⭐️
The tutorial teaches the principles of exporting animations from any program. The apps I use as examples include Toon Boom Advanced, Adobe Premiere, Adobe Media Encoder, Magix Vegas Pro, and Flipaclip. If you use something else - and you probably do - this tutorial is still useful.
People will argue about ProRes vs Cineform vs DNxHR as an intermediate mezzanine codec. Any of them are good. As an animator I always choose intermediate over lossless - partly because Im too lazy to install Lagarith Lossless again, and partly because there is no quality difference visible to the human eye between lossless and intermediate. Youre only protecting data you cant see. Plus, animators usually dont work with live action footage and have less to worry about as far as transcoding camera recordings.
Though I do use the lossless MOV Animation codec when exporting from Toon Boom Advanced because I always have to do further edits elsewhere, and MOV Animation is the only Toon Boom codec that survives my workflow without ugly interlacing.
Cheap animation programs (like Flipaclip) will only let you export lossy formats. Theres nothing you can do about it - but at least now you know why your art may not look as sharp if you edit that clip in another program, or if you send it to someone else for a collab.
The examples of complex animation worth the huge amount of extra time a 2-pass VBR export are Castlevania, Metal Gear Rising, and Zone of the Enders. I personally do not find 2-pass VBR worth the encode time since my animations are simple and destined for YouTube, not Netflix streaming.
I always suggest VBR over CBR for animators, unless the destination platform for your video demands CBR.

![Komi Cant Communicate [Scribble Kibble]
An introduction to framing and composition in animation, which Komi Cant Communicate uses in a unique way because its main character never talks.
A lot of this is a mini tutorial on filmography/cinematography camera, shot size, angle, etc. The same principles matter a lot for comics too. I could talk and talk and talk about these things because they ultimately make the difference between a good animation and a GREAT animation.
If Id realized earlier how cool the text effects in the anime are Id have focused more on those! Instead this touches briefly on how the art is set up to make things stressful, lonely, anxious, and awkward.
