Twenty-six years ago, before she regained her memories, Yoshino was a frail child raised by her widowed mother. Due to her health issues, she spent most of her life in a hospital, with the small room and its narrow window being her entire world. One day, her mother, Nagisa, gifted her a rabbit puppet named Yoshinon, symbolizing her mother’s constant care while she was busy with work. Yoshino dreamed of making a junior puppet to give to her mother, but tragedy struck when Nagisa died in a work-related accident. Overwhelmed with grief at her mother’s absence, Yoshino's condition deteriorated to the point where she struggled to breathe. It was then that Mio arrived, offering her a Sephira Crystal, which transformed Yoshino into a Spirit and cured her illness. Shortly after, she vanished from the hospital, forgetting her past as a human.
Like many Spirits, Yoshino often manifested during Spacequakes, though she sometimes appeared quietly without causing any disturbances. Whenever she showed up, her Spirit powers inadvertently brought rain, further isolating her from others. Due to the constant threat from the AST, who sought to eliminate her, Yoshino refrained from fighting back, as she didn't want to harm anyone. This led to her becoming increasingly withdrawn and lonely. In her solitude, she unconsciously used the puppet on her left hand and ventriloquism to create an alternate personality named Yoshinon, who represented the strong, outspoken version of herself. Over time, Yoshino began to rely on Yoshinon for communication, effectively letting her alter ego speak for her.
Yoshino is portrayed as a shy yet gentle young Spirit, much more passive than her peers. She never fights back against the AST, even when they pose a threat to her life. In her first appearance, she is so withdrawn that she struggles to form complete sentences and often relies on her alter ego, Yoshinon, to communicate. While this coping mechanism isn't healthy, it does help her maintain some mental stability. However, when separated from Yoshinon, the usually reserved Yoshino becomes unstable and is willing to resort to violence to retrieve her puppet.
Like other Spirits, Yoshino’s emotional state is reflected in her abilities. During her introduction, her powers create constant rain, symbolizing her sadness and loneliness. Additionally, when Yoshinon is absent, Yoshino unintentionally freezes her surroundings, indicating her instability without her alter ego.
As the story progresses, after Shido seals her powers, Yoshino gradually improves her communication skills and learns to engage with society. Soon after beginning her rehabilitation, she can converse with others without relying on Yoshinon. She becomes more open and adventurous, particularly after forming a friendship with Natsumi. During the Spirit battle royale, the fear of losing Shido prompts Yoshino to unleash her full potential, bravely confronting her fellow Spirits. This journey of growth culminates in her choosing to remove Yoshinon and confess her feelings to Shido.
