Via Lathrop PD: On January 27th, 2024 The Lathrop Police Department responded to a domestic violence call on Shadywood Avenue in Lathrop California at around 12:25 p.m.
Police says the man, identified as 40-year-old Juan Valdez driving a Nissan Sedan, drove southbound on I-5 from Roth Road until his car stopped working and he pulled over just south of Lathrop Road. After exiting his vehicle, the suspect made an attempt to carjack a vehicle and held onto it while the driver drove away. Then he tried to open the passenger door and an officer Involved Shooting Occurred.
Valdez was later released from the hospital and he's booked into the San Joaquin County Jail and charged with multiple felonies including:
felony carjacking felony,
false imprisonment,
felony evasion,
resisting arrests and
committing a felony while out on release from custody on a prior felony.
