The City-State of Gulg is positioned near the center of the Tablelands, at the southern tip of the Windbreak Mountains, in the Cresent Forest. It’s culture and architecture are loosely Sub-Saharan African based with a healthy dose of fantasy mixed in. It is protected by a tall wall of twisted brambleweed.
Gulg is ruled by the Sorcerer Queen Lalali-Puy, known to her people as the Oba. In Gulgite her name means Forest Goddess. The people of Gulg love their queen and happily obey, to the best of their ability, her whims
Gulg is at war with its neighbor Nibenay, over control of the Crecent Forest. This war has simmered for centuries, occasionally boiling over into large battles from time to time.
The Oba’s Templars serve the same functions as those in other city-states. Their rank is indicated by the number of necklaces they wear, 10 denoting a templar of the highest rank.
The nobility of Gulg are not landowners, as they are in other city-states. This is because The Oba owns everything in Gulg. Noble status comes from being an elite hunter instead. This means that their titles are not hereditary either but are earned through their skill as a hunter.
Because the Oba owns everything within Gulg, merchants, outside the city gates, sell directly to her Templars. Gulg’s main exports are peppers, kola nuts, and feathers.
