Early titanite chunks can be found on several locations. In FoFG, you can go NG+ using an astetic and get 3 easy chunks.

The +8 rapier combined with RoB is very effective in PvE and will get you through until drangleic castle. By then you can get 3 or more chunks in brightstone cove tseldora, making the rapier +10 (Slabs are easy to obtain). Good start for any build/character.
